Why does he want revenge and against whom or what? He wants revenge against the great white whale known as moby dick because he lost his leg to it. Who is the narrator of Moby Dick and what is the first line of the novel?

There are two significant Biblical allusions mentioned in the film. To whim do these allusions reference? How are the names significant? For example in the bible Ahab is a king that goes against god, in the novel Ishmael goes against the whale that could be represented as god or the devil. The narrator states that Moby Dick symbolizes three different meanings for three different characters.

List the characters and the meaning which Moby Dick symbolizes for each of them. Ishmael was one of the only crew members to accept other beliefs. His friendship with Queequeg paints the perfect picture of a man to live lovingly and acceptingly with his peers.

This dependency is how the Pequod performed. Every member, although each individual was different from the next, did their part in trying to assure the success of the Pequod. The interdependency on the ship transfers over to show the counterpane of humanity.

Queequeg is the signally the most diverse character in Moby Dick. He introduced to the reader as the man Ishmael will have to bunk with for the night. It was now quite plain that he must be some abominable savage or other. I quaked to think of it. A peddler of heads too — perhaps the heads of his own brothers.

He might take a fancy to mine — heavens! However, this impression is quickly passed on by the quick shift from Queequeg the savage, to Queequeg the noble and trustworthy friend. Still there is another culture that is rolled up into Queequeg, it is that of the Islamic religion.

Queequeg follows the Ramadan but only while worshipping an African idol. When he is following his rituals for hours on end, he escapes to another world.

All of these opinions formed are based on the physical looks of his character. Despite the fact that at first glance anyone would be terrified of this cannibal, he is one of the most outgoing and positive people in the book. Melville's father also went bankrupt, had a mental collapse, and then died. These experiences had a psychological impact on him that lasted his whole life.

These hardships are evident throughout his writings and symbolized in Moby Dick by the character Ishmael. The name Ishmael can be traced back to the Biblical story of Ishmael, who was alienated child. The story of Ishmael closely relates to Melville's life. There is a vast amount of evidence proving that Melville knew of the Biblical story of Ishmael and purposely named Ishmael of Moby Dick, Ishmael.
